RABBIT HUTCHES AT rabbithutch.biz
|
 |
At rabbithutch.biz we specialize in the
top end of the hutch market, all the hutches are made with the very
best pressure treated timber to add years to the life of your hutch.
Along with this we also seek advice from the many rabbit rescue workers
around the UK so the hutches you see on this page are not a product
of someone who has no experience of keeping rabbits, but from suggestions
made by the people who really care about rabbit welfare.

THE REALLY BIG HUTCH
|
 |
|
We at Forsham are never afraid to accept
constructive criticism. A customer expressed the view that even
our 6ft Proper Hutch fell short of her requirements for good rabbit
welfare. The Rabbit Welfare Association and the largest rabbit rescue
in the UK, 'Bobtails Rabbit and Guinea Pig Rescue' state that any
bunnies hutch should be long enough for the rabbit to take at least
3-4 hops without bumping it's nose on the end, to stand up on its
back legs (an important part of normal behaviour) and periscope
their surroundings. The rabbit hutch should be tall enough to allow
bunnies to do this without being hunched over or folding its ears
against the roof.
As bunnies should always live in pairs (unless house bunnies, when
the owner is home the majority of the time) they must be able to
lay down together, stretched right out in any given direction inside
their hutch. (The best pairing is male/female, neutered and spayed
and vaccinated for Myxomatosis and VHD.) With these guidelines,
and discussions/advice from one of our rabbit ladies, we have exceeded
the 'Rabbit Welfare Association' minimum hutch size of 5ft x 2ft
x 2ft, for two small breed bunnies.
In association with the largest rabbit
and guinea pig rescue in the UK 'Bobtails Rabbit and Guinea Pig
Rescue', based in Surrey www.bobtailsrescue.org.uk We have built
a really wonderful bunny home. I don't think we can be accused of
exaggeration, the RBH has a base of 7 1/2ft x 2 1/2ft and stands
nearly 3 1/2ft at the back wall. Bunnies will love the space and
security that comes with the RBH. It is predator and weatherproof
and will pass any rescue centres home check. A truly wonderful really
big hutch.
Approved by the Rabbit Welfare Association.

6FT PROPER HUTCH

Shown
with the optional Rompa run. Not for a pet with agoraphobia, this
is a giant hutch and coupled with a Rompa run as shown here your rabbit
will need a route map to find its bed.

4FT + 6FT ROMPA RUNS
|
|
Shown on the 6ft Hutch. It did'nt take a lot of imagination to develop
the Rompa run, just a little innovation. The run gives your pet another
level of life . A stand and combination run that enables your pet
to go down a ramp into the basement to play. We supply a replacement
floor for your hutch so you can add the run at a later date or by
putting the original floor back, convert the hutch back to standard
.We have Rompa Runs for the 4 and 6ft Proper hutches.
Both Rompas have top opening wire doors so you can access the basement
area. We tried the original run on a rabbit owned by a lady in our
sales office. It has to be said that the animal was clinically brain
dead. You know the type, you can only tell its head from its rear
because standard rabbit design dictates you don't get ears on bums.
After a few days it was hurling itself up and down the ramp to such
a degree that it was questionable as to whether it was same animal.
I think animated may best describe the personality change. We even
contemplated making it a tread mill like hamsters have, but if a ramp
had that affect then a wheel might have caused the rabbit version
of men in white coats to arrive....

Pictured to the left attached to a 4ft Hutch with Rompa Run : By
extending the walls and introducing a wire (removable) roof. It
is now possible to double the ground area of both our 4ft and 6ft
Rompa Runs. This extension can be fitted retrospectively to previously
purchased Rompas.

THE PETERBOROUGH
|
 |
OK I give up.... after being harangued by
customers, my wife and the sales ladies to come up with a purpose
designed pet ark, I 've succumbed. The arguments were sound enough
because ironically we sell as many of our smaller units for rabbits
than we ever have done for hens. The Peterborough ('Peters borough'
get it) is our first purpose designed ark for 'pets'. We have combined
features from our popular Boughton arks with the mind expanding
advantages of the Forshams Proper Hutch and Rompa Run combination
The Peterborough provides 'bun' with a covered lawn run which has
wire (1x1") on both long sides with fixed ( so secure) tongued and
grooved boarding on the triangle sides. This effectively affords
Bun with both shade form the sun and shelter from the rain. A 'shutable'
ramp to upstairs gives access to the segregated bedroom. Access
for cleaning and 'bun checking' is achieved via a fully removable
side door into the living bit. For feeding and catching there is
a hinged wire door into the run area. For the lawn conscious amongst
you (and aren't we all ) I should point out that because the grass
is never smothered by the house as would be the case with a unit
with the house at ground level, therefore you never get the yellow
grass patches that are indicative of having the rabbit on the lawn.
